The vocabulary lands in rooms like this one: a practice, a committee, and a decision that is hard to reverse.

## What the public record settles

The preview carries the contents, the introduction, clauses 1 to 3 and every defined term. The concept and principle clauses are named but not public. This site is built to that boundary, not past it.

## The date, and what it is not

ISO records stage 40.99 on 8 September 2026: the DIS was approved for registration as an FDIS. No publication date is recorded. The planning date used here is 15 September 2027, an estimate 330 days from this build.

The comparison behind it is ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010:2022, whose 40.99 stage fell on 3 January 2022 and whose publication followed on 7 November 2022. A ten month gap is plausible, not guaranteed.

## Six terms that change the conversation

The vocabulary is the operative part of the document for most readers. These six carry the most consequence for a regulated firm.

### Architecture

The fundamental ideas and the essential qualities that appear in an entity within its setting. The ideas include the dec...

3.2.3

### Architecting

3.4.2

### Architecture design

The information needed, and enough, to create, transform or understand an architecture. It comes out of architecting; it...

3.5.4

### Architecture viewpoint

## Four concepts, and the split that matters

Clause 4 is not public, but its structure and the definitions it builds on are. These four pages show what each concept asks of a practice.

  4.3

### Architecture design and solution design

The introduction treats the split as basic: two kinds of design, one strategic and enduring, the other detailed and tactical. It also says the two can...

4.5

### Stakeholder concerns and architectural aspects

The pairing is the discipline at the centre of the practice: a concern belongs to a stakeholder, an aspect belongs to the entity, and the architecture...

4.6

### Architecture viewpoints and architecture views

The pair is the mechanism by which concerns reach the description. The document treats a viewpoint as associated with stakeholder perspectives, framin...

4.10

### Life cycle and life history

The four terms give a firm a way to separate the method from the record. Phase and stage are types; life history is what actually happened. That separ...

## What to do before publication

### 1. Name the entity

Write the entity of interest and its boundary. The scope names enterprises, systems, software, products, services and more; a practice that has never drawn the boundary cannot say what it describes.

### 2. Own one description

Give one architecture description a purpose, an owner and a review date. Completeness depends on the purpose, not on a universal template.

### 3. Split the design

Separate architecture design from solution design in the method. The introduction calls this a fundamental distinction between two types of design.

### 4. Register the concerns and viewpoints

A concern belongs to a stakeholder; a viewpoint frames it and produces views. Two registers make the chain visible and auditable.

### 5. Adopt the terms

Map the 35 terms into the firm glossary with a local example each. One word for two ideas is the defect that survives longest.

### 6. Record the decision

Write the adoption decision, the owner and the review date. A practice that drifts back to its old vocabulary has not adopted anything.

    Specimen reading

      Forming

Some parts of the practice are in place. The gap is usually the split between architecture design and solution design, or the viewpoint register.

Coverage of the four core artefacts: 50 percent. This is a reading of the answers, not an audit or a compliance result.

- Write the viewpoint register: each viewpoint, the perspective it serves, the concerns it frames and the views it produces. Due 21 May 2027.

- Split the delivery method into architecture design and solution design. Due 31 May 2027.

- Put the 35 defined terms into the firm glossary. Due 10 June 2027.

Specimen, labelled. Run the check on your own seven answers.
