## What this term settles

A view is not a diagram. It is an expression with a job: address concerns and reflect aspects. That means a view can be judged by whether the intended reader can see their concern addressed. It also explains why one diagram cannot serve every audience.

## What to do in your practice

For each view, name the concerns it addresses, the aspects it reflects, the reader and the question it answers. If a view has no named concern, it is decoration. If it has no reader, it will not be maintained.

## Who it binds

The role that owns the practice area the term governs. A definition binds nobody on its own; it binds the reader who adopts the term in a method, a description or a contract.

## Evidence an auditor or regulator asks for

- A view register with concern, aspect, reader and question.
An auditor asks why each view exists and who uses it.

- The view itself, with a legend a reader can follow.
Shows the expression is usable, not only present.

- A record of the views retired.
Prevents a library of stale views being mistaken for a current architecture.

- The feedback from the named reader.
Shows the view served its purpose.

Ask your teamWhich concern does this view address, and can the person who holds that concern read it without help?

## Common gaps this page catches

- Views are produced by tool default and no one can say which concern they address.

- The view library grows and is never pruned.

- Readers are never named, so no one checks usability.

## What to prepare before publication

Audit the view library against the concern register. Retire views with no concern. For the top five views, name the reader and ask them whether the view answers their question.
