# Architecture information package

The work product of an architecting effort that carries the architecture design so that engineering and other architecture related work can build on it. It informs one or more descriptions of the architecture and can hold the extra information those efforts need.

## What this term settles

The package is the unit of handover. It answers a practical question that documents alone do not: what does the receiving team get, and what is it expected to do with it? A firm that hands over a folder of diagrams has not produced a package in this sense.

## What to do in your practice

Define the package contents once, then use the same structure for every handover. Include the architecture description, the decisions, the constraints, the open questions and the named recipient. Version the package and record what it supersedes.

## Who it binds

The role that owns the practice area the term governs. A definition binds nobody on its own; it binds the reader who adopts the term in a method, a description or a contract.

## Evidence an auditor or regulator asks for

- A package index with the recipient and the intended use.
An auditor asks what was handed over, to whom, and for what purpose.

- The version and supersession record.
Prevents two live packages being used as the basis for delivery.

- The open questions list carried with the package.
Shows the receiving team knew what was not settled.

- The acknowledgement of receipt by the engineering lead.
Closes the handover loop.

Ask your teamWhat exactly does the engineering team receive from architecting, and what are they expected to do with it?

## Common gaps this page catches

- Handover is a shared drive folder with no index, version or recipient.

- Open questions are lost at handover, so engineering rediscovers them.

- No one acknowledges receipt, so the handover cannot be evidenced.

## What to prepare before publication

Create the package template and use it for the next handover. Add a recipient line and a supersession line. Ask the engineering lead to acknowledge receipt in writing.

## Common questions

What does Architecture information package mean in ISO 42024?
The work product of an architecting effort that carries the architecture design so that engineering and other architecture related work can build on it. It informs one or more descriptions of the architecture and can hold the extra information those efforts need.
What evidence should we keep for 3.4.3?
A package index with the recipient and the intended use. The version and supersession record. The open questions list carried with the package.
