## What this unit settles

A document with no normative references stands on its own vocabulary and principles. It does not incorporate another standard by reference, so a reader cannot be directed elsewhere for a binding requirement. That matters for conformity claims: the document cannot be used to import obligations from a related standard.

## What to do in your practice

If the firm method cites related standards, keep those citations in the method, not in the 42024 vocabulary. Do not describe 42024 as requiring compliance with 42010, 42020 or 42030. The relationship is one of family and shared vocabulary, not incorporation. Record the family references in a separate section of the method, with the note that they are related reading and not incorporated requirements. A reader who finds the two mixed will assume an obligation that the document does not create, and the firm will spend review time defending a citation that was never normative.

## Who it binds

The organisation and the architecture practice. This unit is not a shall requirement; the claim level states what it is.

## Evidence an auditor or regulator asks for

- A citation map that separates family references from incorporated requirements.
Prevents a false claim that 42024 requires another standard.

- The method document with its own normative citations.
Keeps obligations where they belong.

- A note of the related standards the practice uses and why.
Shows the family relationship is understood.

- The review of any conformity claim that cites 42024.
Catches the common error of importing requirements.

Ask your teamDoes any procedure in this firm claim that 42024 requires a related standard, and where did that claim come from?

## Common gaps this page catches

- The method cites a family of standards as if they were incorporated.

- Conformity claims import obligations from 42010 without saying so.

- No one has separated family relationships from normative requirements.

## What to prepare before publication

Audit the method for sentences that say 42024 requires or mandates another standard. Rewrite them as family relationships or move the obligation to its own source.
