# Annex B, Determining architectural significance of concepts and properties

Annex B has 4 sections in the published contents of ISO/IEC/IEEE DIS 42024. The public preview gives the titles but not the body text, so each page states what the section covers, the definitions it builds on, the evidence to keep and the gaps it exposes, and says plainly where the text is not public.

An annex is read after the clauses, and these two are notes and guidance rather than a clause requirement. The pages here label the status as not stated in the public preview, because the preview does not state it.

B.1

### Background

The subclause opens Annex B, Determining architectural significance of concepts and properties, with its background. Annex B follows Annex A and addresses the judgement of whether ...

B.2

### Aligning architecture in design

The subclause addresses aligning architecture in design. It builds on the design split in 3.4.2 and 3.4.5, and on the significance judgement introduced in B.1....

B.3

### Duality of architecture

The subclause addresses the duality of architecture. It follows A.5 on decomposition and synthesis and applies the same duality to the judgement of significance....

B.4

### Pursuit of opportunities

The subclause closes Annex B on the pursuit of opportunities. It applies the significance judgement to opportunities as well as to problems, which is the note the annex ends on....

## How to use the annexes

Annex A connects the terms; Annex B applies the judgement of architectural significance. Use Annex A when the practice argues about what a word means, and Annex B when it argues about whether a decision belongs at architecture level. Both are better read with the clause 3 definitions open.
