# Annex A, Notes on terms and concepts

Annex A has 5 sections in the published contents of ISO/IEC/IEEE DIS 42024. The public preview gives the titles but not the body text, so each page states what the section covers, the definitions it builds on, the evidence to keep and the gaps it exposes, and says plainly where the text is not public.

An annex is read after the clauses, and these two are notes and guidance rather than a clause requirement. The pages here label the status as not stated in the public preview, because the preview does not state it.

A.1

### Architecture design and solution related entities

The subclause is the first note in Annex A, and its title places it on the entities related to architecture design and solution design. It follows the clause 3 definitions of desig...

A.2

### Architecture expressed as a set of models

The subclause is the second note in Annex A, on an architecture expressed as a set of models. It builds on model (3.5.5), metamodel (3.5.6) and architecture description (3.5.1)....

A.3

### Life cycle and life history concepts

The subclause is the third note in Annex A, on life cycle and life history concepts. It builds on life cycle (3.6.1), phase (3.6.2), stage (3.6.3) and life history (3.6.4)....

A.4

### Enterprise and system concepts

The subclause is the fourth note in Annex A, on enterprise and system concepts. It builds on enterprise (3.3.5) and system (3.3.6), and on the entity of interest (3.3.1) that both ...

A.5

### Duality of architectural decomposition and architectural synthesis

The subclause is the fifth note in Annex A, on the duality of architectural decomposition and architectural synthesis. It closes the annex with the two directions of architecture w...

## How to use the annexes

Annex A connects the terms; Annex B applies the judgement of architectural significance. Use Annex A when the practice argues about what a word means, and Annex B when it argues about whether a decision belongs at architecture level. Both are better read with the clause 3 definitions open.
